1st Day of Potty Training Twins....I QUIT!!!

Well, here we are, all ready for the big day. I had visualized how the day would begin and how we would have success and everyone would love sitting on their new potty, encouraging each other.....eating treats.....one happy family!

Hmm....that's not exactly what happened.

To sum it up, I gave 2 two year olds candy all day long, giving them the most intense sugar-high that they've ever experienced thus far in their lives. THEN I expected them to be able to sit still on some plastic frog-looking potty seat for 10 minutes at a time to wait for pee-pee to come out that could just as easily come out in their diapers. I didn't let them go outside to play, let couldn't go in the pool, all they could do was read books, watch movies, and check for dry underpants.

Needless to say the result was 2 little tornadoes running through our 2 bedroom apartment screaming, clinging, jumping, throwing temper-tantrums back to back like I've never seen. I would've sat back in awe of the spectacle had they not been attacking me on every side.

After bouncing back and forth between the potty seat and the time-out corner I finally decided to slap some diapers on and go outside to let them run for 5 hours or so.

So, potty training??? Uh, no thank you. I'll stick with diapers. And I'm seriously considering never going back.....I mean seriously, we have every type of urine-collection device in our home. We could grow them up just fine on our supplies and send them out the door when they're 18 to learn how to use the potty as adults. I'm sure it would take much less sugar and a lot less time-outs by then!

  1. HAHAHAH man that sucks. Well I know advice is cheap but my mom did this with 5 boys and we did it with Nash and Ethan...Let them have a normal day just don't put on diapers. Put on underwear. Let them play and everything. Keep asking if they need to potty but thats it. And be prepared to do some laundry..BUT here is the thing. There is a discomfort that most kids can't stand about going in their clothes. Diapers keep them dry, underwear doesn't. Took the boys 3 days each if I remember right. You should call Joanna for the details. She tried different stuff like what you said, then called my mom and there you have it. Hope you guys are doing well tell Chris I said hey. Be blessed.

  4. To me, honestly potty training is worse than birthing. What you are doing at this point is training yourself. They will get trained when their little bladders get developed enuf to let them sense it and not before. What did I do? Enrolled them in preschool and THEY trained them! Nothing like a row of kids on potties to get them motivated - monkey see, monkey do-do (haha). Seriously, sweetie, relax and it will come. PS boys take longer so maybe if you Lala gets the control first she will convince her brother! PSS - this story is truly hilarious! You need a crown for your day! Love and miss you guys! Junie

  5. I can honestly tell you that we waited till they were SUPER ready to do it {and Mommy was super ready too}. We had plenty of practice time - Kaleb uses the potty before bath and bed, but since I really dislike pull-ups I am an all or nothing kind of mom. :) All of our kids did it pretty quickly {within a day or two} but I think a lot of that was waiting until they were really ready.

That said, Kaleb turns 3 in November and I'm waiting until we return from vacation and we'll focus more on it then when I'm ready. :)

    I'm sorry I can't be more help!

  6. Ha ha ha- hilarious!! Jackson was a little bit older when we did the potty training but let me just say that Aaron is SO right! It wasn't until we completely switched over to underwear and let go of the diapers/pull-ups that it clicked with Jackson. It means inevitable accidents, but after trying for a few months off and on, when we switched to underwear he got it in less than a week! But you're waiting until 18 idea is really good to! =)
