Teaching our Children

I just started reading the book of Mark in the bible. It's been a while since I've read it and I plan to go into much more detail studying it this go round. I've read 2 1/2 chapters and this is what I've noticed......Jesus did do a lot of healing, a lot of casting out demons, but when you really look at why He made decisions to go certain places it was to Teach or to Preach. Sure, he met peoples' needs everywhere He went, but His number one desire so far in the book was to Teach. His ministry on earth was only 3 years long, and that is what He prioritized. When I think about out children I immediately look at what I'm focusing on with them. If God wills, and they live to be adults, then Chris and I only have 18 years with them, if God desires them to be with Him earlier then we have even less time. So NOW when I look at what Jesus prioritized, I want to do the same. I want to start pumping them full of as much Truth about God as I know and pray that God will fill in the blanks when my understanding, wisdom, knowledge, grace, and love fall short. Chris is always able to keep this perspective and focus, he's done it since day 1. But I find myself getting so caught up in the joy they bring to me that I forget to teach them more than manners, ABC's, and how to throw a ball (Although I must say that I fall VERY short on the third one, I throw like a girl and have since I was 2!! Hopefully the kids will get Chris' giftings there). It's obvious that our world is a mess and that there are hardly any moral values emphasized these days outside of the home, so Lord, please help us to TEACH them Your Truth, to seize every opportunity that we have right now, when they are willing and excited to learn everything that comes out of our mouths.

If any of you have any good suggestions for what you've done with your little ones, please let me know!!
